First Ammonoosuc Regional Energy Fair

Saturday, April 5, 2008
9 am to 6 pm
Profile School, Route 18, Bethlehem

Schedule | Speakers

To promote North Country Energy Committees; to share ways and means to decrease our energy use and supply our energy needs using sustainable resources; and to en-courage their application in our homes, organizations, businesses, and governments.

Do you want to reduce your energy consumption? Save money? On Saturday, April 5, 2008, 9 AM to 6 PM, the Ammonoosuc Regional Energy Fair will give you many opportunities to learn how.

Sponsored by the Energy Committees of Bethlehem, Franconia, and Littleton, and Public Service of New Hampshire, this first-in-the-North-Country event will be held at the new Profile School, on Route 18, in Bethlehem.

The fair will showcase practical, sustainable energy systems and means of decreasing energy use in homes, organizations and businesses.

PSNH will be there to encourage participation in the utilities energy efficiency programs.

Tours of the new Profile School building will demonstrate energy savings and operational savings that have been included in its design and construction.

At 10:30 AM, Patrick Miller, past Executive Director of the Jordan Institute, will Keynote the Fair.

In the afternoon, illustrated “Discovery Sessions,” -- about saving energy at home, energy audits and home improvements, and new home building technologies and techniques -- will attract attendees.

The fair will provide opportunities for local residents and business people to talk with energy conservation experts, builders, solar, wind and geothermal energy system distributors, pellet stove makers, building remodeling and insulation suppliers and to access many other knowledgeable resources for saving energy.

This is your invitation.

Come to the Fair!

Keynote Address:
Climate Change Solutions

Patrick Miller, MPH, Research Asso-ciate Professor, School of Health and Human Services, UNH, is a speaker for New Hampshire’s Carbon Coalition.

Previous to his role at UNH, Patrick was the Executive Director of The Jordan Institute in Concord, where he worked on sustainable development practices, transportation solutions, and land use practices. He is on the Steering Committee for the NH Carbon Challenge.

Patrick and his family live in a passive and active solar, EnergyStar-certified home in Campton.

Laura Richardson

Energy Efficiency: Saving the World and Your Wallet, One Watt at a Time

Laura Richardson, co-founder and past-president of the NH Sustainable Energy Association, lives off the grid in a solar-powered, low-energy home in the White Mountains.

Her off-grid lifestyle requires a very small energy budget, and in this Discovery she'll share some of the tips she has learned, as well as show how energy consumption, energy generation, and bigger world-view energy issues are all connected. As the saying goes: the cheapest and greenest energy is the energy we never use.

Bob Tortorice

Technologies and Techniques in Building an Energy Star Home

Bob Tortorice, creator and owner of Building Alternatives, Inc., lives in Franconia. His home, which he de-signed and built, won the 2007 Gold award for the “MOST ENERGY- EFFICIENT DESIGN SOLUTION” in a Residential Construction.

Discover here the value of using Structural Insulated Panel (SIPS), Insulated Concrete Form (ICF), Timber-Frame, 2x6 Panelized, Log and Modular construction techno-logies, and Passive and Active Solar, and Geo-Thermal Heat and Air Conditioning techniques.

Bruce Bennett

Don’t Waste Your Energy

Bruce Bennett, a Project Manager with GDS Associates, specializes in residential energy efficiency. As a certified rater, he determines the en-ergy ratings for homes that qualify for the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Homes labeling program. He also consults with people building new homes, and does energy audits for owners of existing homes.

Discover the energy waste he finds most common, the ones most easily corrected, and the waste you might least expect. Learn the process and value of a home energy audit. Once, again: the cheapest and greenest energy is the energy we never use.
